Nabi Muhammed ﷺ as a Rahmah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

All praise is due to Allah, the Cherisher, Sustainer, Nourisher and Provider of the entire creation. May peace, blessings and salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.

Allah makes mention in the Holy Quran :

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ

And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds. (21;107)

Here Allah tells us that he sent Muhammad ﷺ as a mercy not to only Muslims but to the entire creation and our beloved Nabi ﷺ displayed this mercy in his actions even before he received Nabuwat (age 40). The Prophet Muhammed ﷺ was known as As Saadiqul Ameen (Trustworthy and Righteous) . When he ﷺ climbed Mount as Safa and called upon the people of Makkah and asked them : “O people , if I told you that there was an army behind this mountain , waiting to raid and attack you , would you believe me ? “They said :” We have not known you to tell a lie.” Thereafter Nabi ﷺ Called upon them to accept Islam and save themselves from the fire and this is when the Quraish turned on the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ . After this he ﷺ faced many trials and tribulations but still displayed rahmah.

How did the beloved Messenger ﷺ display this Rahmah? After the demise of his wife Khadija (R. ) and his uncle Abu Talib in the year of sorrow , he ﷺ emigrated to Taif to preach about Islam and was received with harshness and inhospitably. The chiefs of Taif stirred up their people to curse and to and stone Nabi ﷺ so much so that his leg began to bleed. When Jibrael (A.S) came to the Nabi ﷺ and said that he will crush the mountains on the people of Taif if he ﷺ so wished – the beloved Nabi ﷺ said :” No , for I hope that Allah will raise from their descendants people who worship him Alone”. Look at the mercy of Nabi Muhammed ﷺ on display.

Nabi ﷺ was the walking and talking Quran. Allah makes mention in Surah 41 verse 34:

وَلَا تَسْتَوِى ٱلْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا ٱلسَّيِّئَةُۚ ٱدْفَعْ بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ

“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better”

Within the character of Nabi Muhammed ﷺ we notice that Nabi Muhammed ﷺ always repelled evil with that which is better.

Another example of this is in the aftermath of the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet ﷺ prayed for the enemy who had injured him by the sword. The Prophet ﷺ did not order for the person who did that to him to be killed or retaliated at. This incident was explained in Sahih Ibn Hibban, where the Prophet ﷺ responded by making the  following supplication:

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِقَوْمِي فَإِنَّهُمْ لا يَعْلَمُونَ

“Oh Allah, forgive my people for they do not know.”

Rasulullah ﷺ also explained that this dua was invoked by the previous messengers and showed that indeed forgiveness is greater than revenge.

We ask Allah to make us of those who follow the example of the best of examples. May Allah accept our efforts from us and grant us understanding In Sha Allah!
