بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
25 Safar 1446/30 August 2024
All praise is due to Allah, the Cherisher, Sustainer, Nourisher and Provider of the entire creation. May peace, blessings and salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
Rajaa translate to as ‘hope’.
Allah (S.W.T) makes mentions in the Holy Quran:
مَن كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ لَآتٍ ۚ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
“Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allah – indeed, the term decreed by Allah is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” (29;5)
It is mentioned in a Hadith Qudsi: “Your Lord says, “My slave, as long as you worship Me and hope from Me, and do not make partners with Me at all, I will forgive whatever comes from you, even if you came to Me with an earth full of mistakes and sins , I would turn to you with the likes of it in forgiveness, I would forgive you and I would not mind.” (القشيري, 2001/1422H)
Rajaa is the connection of the heart to something beloved which is going to happen in the future.
What is the difference between رجاء and تمني? Tammanni is wishful longing and causes its companion to not strive and inherit laziness. Rajaa is the opposite Tammanni and it is praiseworthy whilst Tammanni is blameworthy.
The sign of Rajaa is goodness in obedience to Allah, when goodness encompasses him, he is inspired to make shukr hoping for the perfection of the favour from Allah in this world and complete pardon in the Hereafter. Rajaa is also the closeness of the heart to the kindness of the Rabb. If a person recognizes evil actions within himself, His Khauf should be predominent to his Rajaa.
It was said: “Khauf (fear) and Rajaa (hope) are like the two wings of a bird. When they are equal, the bird is level and his flight is complete, but when one of them is deficient he falls into destruction. And when both of them are gone the bird reaches the brink of death.”
We ask Allah to grant us the strength and ability to worship Allah in the manner which is due to Him. May Allah accept our efforts from us and grant us understanding In Sha Allah!
