All praise is due to Allah, the Cherisher, Sustainer, Nourisher and Provider of the entire creation. May peace, blessings and salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
The migration of the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ from Makkah to Madina was a signified the establishment of the world’s very first “abode of Islam”. The first and most important steps for the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ to take, was to lay out the essential foundations of the Islamic State.
The very first step that Nabi ﷺ took was the construction of Masjidul Nabawi. As we all know the Prophet’s ﷺ she-camel stopped and kneeled on the property of two orphaned boys from the Ansaar, and the Prophet ﷺ bought this piece of land from them for 10 dinars and instructed that the Masjid be built on that land. This shows the importance of Masjid, it shows that it is a fundamental part of any Islamic community. The Masjid is a place where Muslims gather on a daily basis to spread the spirit of equality and justice and the removal arrogance, selfishness from the hearts. Another important point to take note of is that the Prophet ﷺ instructed for the digging up of the old graves and cutting of the trees. This shows the permissibility of digging up old graves that are so old that they are obliterated from sight and that building a Masjid on that same soil/land is permissible.
The second step that Nabi ﷺ took was establishing the brotherhood between the Ansaar and the Muhaajireen. These ties were based on truth, support and assistance. The relationship between the companions were such that they Ansaar shared everything with the Muhajireen, from their food to their wealth. So much so that if an Ansaari companion had 2 wives he would divorce one and let his brother from the Muhajireen marry her. This brotherhood was a key factor in establishing the Islamic state, there had to be unity and solidarity.
The third step taken by Nabi ﷺ was the drafting/drawing up of the pact and the covenant between the Muslims and Non-Muslims. This was probably the most important step in the foundation of the Islamic state. This pact comprised of the peace treaty between the Muslims and the Jews which recognized their rights to religion, right to wealth, amongst many other rights allowed to them. It also stipulated certain conditions which they had to conform to. The pact laid out perfect guidelines for both Muslims and Non-Muslims. It also shows that the Islamic state consisted of all the components required to be a state from its inception and it shows the fairness of the Prophet ﷺ with the Jews.
The above steps, were the key and fundamental steps taken by the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ to form the Islamic state and the community of Madina and Islam was built on this foundation.
May Allah accept our efforts from us and grant us understanding In Sha Allah!
