بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
19 Dhul Qa’dah 1444/09 June 2023
All praise is due to Allah, the Cherisher, Sustainer, Nourisher and Provider of the entire creation. May peace, blessings and salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
Islam is more than just a religion, Islam is a way of life and the teachings of Islam permeate all aspects of life. While Islam indeed outlines the importance, etiquette and rights of creation (which is highly emphasized in our era), we tend to brush aside and ignore the etiquette and rights that belong to Allah.
Imam Ghazzali makes mention in The Beginning of Guidance:
اِعْلَمْ: أنَّ صَاحِبَكَ الَّذِي لا يُفَارِقُكَ فِي حَضَرِكَ و سَفَرِكَ، و نَوْمِكَ و يَقَظَتِكَ، بَلْ فِي حَيَاتِكَ و مَوْتِكَ … هو رَبُّكَ و مَوْلَاكَ و سَيِّدُكَ و خَالِقُكَ
“Know that the companion, the one who never parts from you, whether you are at home or traveling, whether you are sleeping or awake, and indeed in your life and at your death – is none other than your Lord, your Protector, your Master and your Creator.”
Some of the rights of Allah include: Believing in the Oneness of Allah, hastening to fulfil the command of Allah, avoidance of the prohibitions set out by Allah, accepting the decree of Allah, giving preference to the truth, showing thanks and gratitude to Allah for all the blessings bestowed upon us and constant remembrance of Allah.
How does Allah deserved to be worshipped? Allah deserves to be worshipped with utmost sincerity, awareness and Ihsaan (perfection). Nabi ﷺ provides us with an understanding of what is Ihsaan:
” أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ”
“To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that Allah is seeing you.” – Sahih Bukhari, 50
We ask Allah to grant us the ability to worship Him in the best of manners observing the best of etiquette. May Allah accept our efforts from us and grant us understanding In Sha Allah!
