The Mercy of Allah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

All praise is due to Allah, the Cherisher, Sustainer, Nourisher and Provider of the entire creation. May peace, blessings and salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.

We often find ourselves indulging in sin. Sometimes we may wonder to ourselves that how can I turn to Allah seeking forgiveness when I have committed the sins which I have? But let us not forget what Almighty Allah tells us in Surah Zumar, verse 53:

قُلْ يَـٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”

Ibn Kathir makes mention in his (tafsir that this Ayat is a call to all sinners, whether they are disbelievers or others – this is a call to turn to Allah and repent for Allah who is the most Exalted will forgive the sins of those that turn back to Him no matter what that persons sins are and no matter how many sins a person has, even if they are as much as the foam of the sea.

Imam Sha’rawi (R.) beautifully said:” How can I ask You (S.W.T) when I am who I am, but how can I not ask You (S.W.T) when You (S.W.T) are who You (S.W.T) are.” Allah is the All Forgiving and the Most Merciful and we should never ever forget that. No matter what sin we have committed or how many sins we may have committed, do not despair in the mercy of Allah.

It is important for us to remember that if we wish to receive the mercy of Allah, we ourselves need to be merciful.

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Prophet ﷺ said:

ارْحَمُوا تُرْحَمُوا وَاغْفِرُوا يَغْفِرْ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ

“Be merciful to others and you will receive mercy. Forgive others and Allah will forgive you.” (Musnad Ahmed 6541)

We ask Allah Almighty to grant us the strength to show mercy to others so we may receive His Mercy and we ask Allah to forgive us for the sins we have committed and allow us to return back to him with a sincere and repenting heart. May Allah accept our efforts from us and grant us understanding In Sha Allah!
