Laylatul Qadr

 20 Ramadan 1443/22 April 2022

All praise is due to Allah, the Cherisher, Sustainer, Nourisher and Provider of the entire creation. May peace, blessings and salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.

Alhamdulilah we find ourselves entering the last 10 nights of Ramadan. One of the most significant events in these last 10 nights is Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Power/Decree).

The exact date of the Night of Qadr is not known to us however Nabi ﷺ advised in a Hadith narrated by Aisha (R.A) :
تَحَرَّوْا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي الْوِتْرِ مِنَ الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ
“Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.” ~Bukhari 2017

With regards to the virtues of this blessed night, Allah makes mention in the Holy Quran, Surah Qadr, verse 3:
لَیۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ خَیۡرࣱ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَهۡرࣲ
“The Night of Qadr is better than a thousand months.”

The reward of witnessing this blessed night and engaging in worship in this night is so great, that it is greater than 1000 months (83 years), which is far more than the average lifespan of the Ummah of Nabi ﷺ (sixty to seventy years) . Imagine if we are fortunate enough to witness this night atleast once in our lifetime.

Amongst the other virtues of Laylatul Qadr, we find that Abu Huraira (R.A) narrates that Nabi ﷺ mentioned:
وَمَنْ قَامَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ
“And whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.” ~ Bukhari 2014

Aisha (R.A) reports that she asked Nabi ﷺ what supplication should she recite if she came across Laylatul Qadr and Nabi ﷺ responded by saying:
تَقُولِينَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي ‏
“Say: ‘O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me.’” ~ Ibn Majah 3850

We ask the Almighty Allah to give us the strength to exert ourselves in these last 10 nights of Ramadan and allow us to witness the night of Qadr this year In sha Allah. May Allah accept our efforts from us and grant us understanding In Sha Allah!

Indeed, Lilatul Qadr is the best month than the thousand months.
