بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
13 Ramadan 1443/15 April 2022
All praise is due to Allah, the Cherisher, Sustainer, Nourisher and Provider of the entire creation. May peace, blessings and salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
Alhamdulilah we find ourselves almost halfway through the blessed month of Ramadan. One of our main aims at this stage is trying to eradicate the bad habits from our life and replace them with new beneficial habits.
We may find ourselves in situations where a person my harm us, either physically or verbally. The big question is how do we respond? Usually our nature is that we tend to get angry and retaliate in the exact manner. However this is contradictory to the Sunnah and the command of Allah.
Allah makes mention in the Holy Quran:
وَلَا تَسْتَوِى ٱلْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا ٱلسَّيِّئَةُۚ ٱدْفَعْ بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ
“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better” ~ Surah Fussilat, verse 34.
Throughout the Prophetic ﷺ history, we will notice that the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ did not respond to evil with evil rather he repelled evil with that which is better. One simple example is when Nabi ﷺ emigrated to Taif to preach about Islam, he was received with harshness. The chiefs of Taif stirred up the people to curse and to stone Nabi ﷺ to the extent that the mubark leg of Nabi ﷺ began to bleed. When Jibrael (A.S) approached Nabi ﷺ, he said that he will crush the mountains on the people of Taif if Nabi ﷺ so wished. Nabi ﷺ responded beautifully by saying: “No, for I hope that Allah will raise from their descendants people who worship Allah Alone and do not associate any partners with Him.”
We ask Allah to grant us the ability and strength to observe patience, repel evil with that which is better in order to carry out the command of Allah and follow the Sunnah of Nabi ﷺ and may Allah accept our efforts from us and grant us understanding In Sha Allah!
